Silverfish Treatment Plan

How Do I Know I Have a Silverfish Infestation?

Most often, homeowners detect silverfish when they find one on the floor or in a sink or bathtub. Their feeding damage also can indicate their presence, along with their tiny pepper like feces. Silverfish are nocturnal and move very quickly. They are secretive, and the severity of an infestation may go unnoticed for long periods of time, allowing for exponential growth. Silverfish reproduce quickly.

Why Should Be Treated?

While indoors, silverfish also eat grains and chew large holes into clothing, upholstery, or paper. In large numbers, they can cause a lot of damage. Ruined items often include stored files, books, and vintage clothes. Their presence also may invite other types of textile pests such as Carpet Beetles.

Preparation Prior To Treatment

There is not much to do before the treatment. Every time before the technician visit you , the floors must be cleaned from dust with hoover or mop.

The Silverfish can lay eggs in various areas in your house. The technician will inspect all of the rooms in the property and carry a chemical treatment, spraying mainly floors and skirting boards. The technician will also spray areas with high moisture such as bathrooms and under the kitchen cupboards.

  1. During the 1st visit the technician will locate the source of the infestation (giving it priority in that area when spray) and spray all the floors and skirting boards in the house with insecticide in a hand sprayer.  Insect monitor traps will be deployed in order to determine the activity between the visits.
  2. On the 2nd visit, the technician will use different insecticide designed also to remain active for much longer period of time. The monitor traps will be also inspected and replaced if needed.
  3. Pest control report will be given to the customer after each visit.

*Additional visit might be required if there is a heavy infestation and the technician advise you.

The technician will use special respiratory mask and gloves to protect himself from the insecticides. Keep in mind that no one else must be present in the property during the moment of treatment . There also needs to be "drying" time of 3 hours after the treatment, before the property can be occupied.
